Life Update

Okay, so maybe I was a little premature in saying that I can lead a normal life now. I think I meant to say that I can lead a normal life when I have family around to help me. How on earth does anybody get anything done? The littlest things take me FOREVER to get done! And you can forget the big things like scrubbing the shower, and cleaning out the fridge, and scouring the oven. I actually broke down and asked my mom to watch him for a couple of hours while I tried to catch up on some of those things.

So he's doing really well. We had a rough week or so when he was really colicky. Lonna, (if you read this) I don't know how you do it! It's tough to have a baby cry for hours in a row! We went to the pediatrician to see if he had any advice and he told me to try going off dairy completely for 3 days. Well I did, and it was like night and day. No more inconsolable crying spells. It's wonderful. On the other hand- do you know HOW MANY THINGS HAVE DAIRY in them? Pretty much everything. I had to say goodbye to my three bowls of cereal a day, and to all of the cheesy snacks I usually have, and to every good dessert that's worth having. I feel so sorry for lactose intolerant people. I don't know how they survive. The doctor said I should be able to re-introduce dairy slowly into my diet, but I'm not sure when to start. I tried a little sour cream the other night- but he had a hard time with that.

He's in the 80th percentile for height and weight. He had gained two pounds by his third week. I'm glad about that- because it's really hard to know how much he's getting to eat. But apparently he's eating pretty well.

I also have a lot of pictures. My dad took some of him, and some of me with him, and then I have a couple I took also.

I'm still enjoying being a mom. I love his little smile. Even if it just means gas!

What a cute baby and what great pictures. I totally disagree with the whole "it is only gas" theory. I think that only jealous people with babies that don't smile say that. You can't smile in your eyes when it is "just gas" and you could see the smile in my babies eyes, so I am sure it is the same for you! Hey and don't worry, I still can't seem to get to cleaning the shower and fridge or even just basic vacuuming. I wonder if that happens when all the kids are finally in school?

Oh I love his cheeks. He is darling. You look great. Well you are a better woman than I am. I also tried to modify my diet, I felt like I was eating bland, bland, bland. But hey it gets better. Much better. And I will also take a smile of any kind, gas or real whenever it is given.

He really has just the sweetest little face. And with stats like that you are well on your way to a varsity member of something. I think that I like the bigger chubbier ones, because there is so much more to hug.( I was referring about the babies, not spouses, but I guess it could go either way)

So glad to hear that you are well and alive, and hey if you want I will hold that precious baby and you can have a go at my fridge.

AWww...he's so little and cute! I'm sorry he's been colicky! You should try soy milk! It's what I drink..vanilla flavored though. Then you can still eat cereal. I promise it's not as bad as it sounds. I think the vanilla is much tastier than milk!
I'm making my blog private, so if you want to, send me your email address to shanicherie@gmail.com.

Loved the pictures. Sorry about the colic, it must have been very hard. Hope you can slowly get back on dairy products. So many good things have dairy products! Good luck.

If he still has colic, read "The Happiest Baby on the Block". By far the best book on colic, ever. I doubt milk is the problem. Read the book. The author is Harvey Karp.
